Title: European Digital Library in the works

Body: European cultural institutions are planning a launch for November 2008, of a prototype European digital library. The archives, museums, audiovisual archives and libraries of Europe are working together to provide a common point of access to the European cultural heritage, via the Internet. When the digital library is launched, it will be possible to access more than 2 million digital books directly, as well as photographs, cards and archive documents, and films from libraries, archives and European museums. Even though the foundation for the European digital library has already started working, there are two important questions pending: funding of the digitalisation, and the way to make copyright-protected works accessible via the European digital library.
